Promotes Core Strengthening & Vestibular Input

Building upper body strength from the shoulders down to the fingers helps with activities that require kids to use their hands. A strong shoulder allows a stable base for strength down in the hands.

Building lower body strength at the hips, knees and ankles helps with tasks like walking up hills, running, jumping and even with sports injury prevention.

When sitting, lifting their arms or legs off the board it works the core muscles – the muscles of the tummy and back. This can build ability to sit upright for longer.

Helps with Sensory Integration & Boost Attention & Focus

Incorporating scooter board activities into a child’s daily routine can help calm and organize the nervous system, which can help lower feelings of stress and anxiety, reduce aggressive behaviors, and improve self-regulation.

The calming effects of scooter board activities helps improve a child’s ability to sit still and concentrate. Scheduling regular β€˜brain breaks’ throughout the day is important for kids and adults alike, and if your child struggles with things like focus, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity, engaging your child in scooter board activities before sitting down to do homework can be extremely beneficial. Teachers may consider providing brain breaks that involve scooter boards throughout the day as well.

Perfect for Sensory Seekers & Sensory Avoiders

Scooter boards give kids tons of vestibular input, and most of the time a lot of proprioceptive input too. These two senses are the powerhouses of the sensory system and for kids that are sensory seekers, scooter boards can help them feel regulated and balanced quickly.

They’re also for the sensory avoiders. Specifically sensitive to movement. Those are the kids that lose their mind when they’re put on a swing, or won’t climb any equipment at the playground. The scooter board can be more gentle than a swing or climbing a tall ladder to ride down the slide.

It may, but not well. It would move slow depending on the height of carpet. Might even be difficult with child sitting on it. Works best on hardwood or concrete.
